Preparing Your Stage for a Lecture or Presentation
Wednesday, August 27th, 2008
Podiums or lecterns can offer a raised or tilted surface to hold presentation or lecture materials. Depending on the size of your presentational lecture you may wish to use for lecterns that stand-alone or a tabletop lectern that is often used in classroom settings. You can usually rent or purchase tabletop lecterns for less than floor lecterns. Many people preferred the more impressive stand-alone models for large presentations or corporate events. These come in two types, the adjustable height and fixed height. Some luck turns even include speakers. Of course, this is a more costly item. These audio luck turns can include 4 built-in speakers that also include an amplifier, power source and a microphone.
Varieties of materials ranging from tubular steel and plywood to wood and laminated fiberboard are used to make presentation lecterns. You can also include reading lights, rechargeable batteries and extension speakers as accessories when you get your lecterns. Make sure you know what type of audience the speaker will be addressing when you choose the lecterns as well as the size of the venue.
You also need to make sure that the venue has a proper staging available for the speaker. If not you will need to purchase or rent modular staging and possibly risers. You may also need stage risers if there is more than one speaker so the audience can see them all at the same time.
We also need to keep in mind that many venues will have their own stage and lecterns or podiums available for your use. This will make your event more cost effective. When considering the electronic components for your lecterns you need to be sure whether the venue has an audio address system or not. You may need to rent or purchase lecterns with built in electronics. If you need to rent or purchase your own modular stage you will be able to hide much of the wiring in electronics beneath the stage and behind a curtain around the edge.
