Every parent wants their kids to have fun on Halloween, but have you thought about the safety of their Halloween costumes? Most parents want their children to wear cool costumes when trick-or-treating, but neglecting a kids’ Halloween costume’s safety can make that experience turn very sour.
Are the costumes are children have chosen dangerous to wear? You need to find out if these Halloween costumes are safe to wear. Read the label before you buy them. Do not sacrifice safety so your child can wear a cool cost.
Is the costume really safe to wear? Well, the answer to that is yes and no. Back in 2001 the Disney stores recalled thousands of Princess Ariel costumes after only one girl received burn injuries. Halloween costumes are required by law is flame resistant materials. Then you have the full head Halloween costumes that have a ventilation problem. This type of Halloween costume does not usually provide enough ventilation for kids to breathe properly and results in carbon dioxide poisoning. Nose holes just are not enough if the child wants to wear a full head mask. The longer the child wears the mask the more carbon dioxide builds up causing your child to faint from lack of oxygen. If nothing else make sure that the mask is well ventilated before you let your child wear it and prevent any nasty side effects.
For many parents most important problem is visibility with their child’s Halloween costume. With adult Halloween costumes there is not as much concern because an adult knows how to watch out for traffic. This is why you need to make sure that your child is visible in traffic to other people. Also, if the child is wearing a full head mask their visibility is also limited. They may not be able to see where they are going, trip, and hurt themselves. During Halloween kids are blindly running around trick-or-treating and really do not pay attention to anything else.
Remember to carefully select your kid’s costumes and make sure it is prepared to be worn at night to eliminate catastrophes. Keeping your child safe on Halloween should be number one on your Halloween list of things to do. That way you will have many more Halloweens to celebrate.
