Mukluk 2Looking good has just got to go hand in hand with staying warm. There is no getting away from the fact that looking good just has to go hand in hand with staying warm; rosy cheeks are OK up to a point, but thread veins and chilblains? No thank you. It’s not wrong to search for the perfect pair of shoes for the party season, in fact, it is still paramount for us girls. But dresses do not “a full winter wardrobe make”.

Sweaters have to be one of the best trends on a purely practical level. As department stores become awash with them, it will not break your pocketbook to buy the fluffiest sweater around.

But oh, the feet . . . Is it really too much to ask that your feet be warm and cozy and still looking stylish? Before discovering the wondrous Mukluk boots it really did seem like it.

In the wintertime, most boots just do not cut it. Most have thin soles and unsteady heels that are no good for a navigating wet pavements and icy steps. You want to be confident when you start that walk from the front door to the car and know that you will not be sitting on cold pavement. Then there is each step from the bus stop to work that creates fear of losing your complete poise and elegance as you walk.

Uggs did fulfill the role for a while, but when copies crept in everywhere it was clear that a good thing was coming to an end. Uggs were great with skinny jeans or short skirts for the weekend. They never did quite cut it for the office. Were we really ever fooled ‘ugly’ was cool?

For a long time now, fur has been out of fashion. So long that when seeing Ms. Moss in a pair, people hit the ‘ewww’ button. After doing a little research people discovered that these boots came up aces for those who are eco-conscious. The mukluk brought high fashion and ethics together at last. The furry used comes from fully sustainable sources, never farmed and goes to help First Nations organizations in Canada. Surely it is a more satisfying way to ‘give’ than buying someone a coat for Christmas. We are generally clueless about leather sources for footwear, so for once it is good to know.

Now there is no reason you cannot get mukluks in two different colors because they are both ethical and practical. You can switch efforts mostly between outfits any time with .
