Storing a Weeks Emergency Survival Food

PP 7In an emergency situation a weeks worth of food can be a lifesaver. If you have easy to prepare food in your home to get you through the first few days after a disaster you might have some peace of mind. Emergency preparedness applies will come in handy if you are in an earthquake for hurricane. Survival food is always a good thing to have.

No one likes to think that they will be involved in a natural or unnatural disaster emergency situation. You can use your worries by having a one-week survival food supply in your home. Having a food storage plan for one week does not mean you cannot add to it by planning to store food for a longer period of time.

Canned and dehydrated foods are probably best emergency disaster situations. You do not need to keep canned foods before eating them in case you have no way to heat them. If you have a way to cook food you might consider freeze-dried foods. You will also need bottled water or a filtering system like the Berkey water filtering system.

You will need to purchase enough for you and your family for 1-week or long. You will probably need to know how much your family will consume of both food and water in a week

You will also need a manual can opener, utensils and dishes. If you haven’t the ability to cook your food you may want to store some spices as well.

You can store your supplies in any container. Make sure that it has a tight fitting lid. Label that container as food storage and place it in an area of your house that is most likely to survive a disaster for where you can easily get to it when you need it.

Most fresh vegetables and fruit will not last more than a week so make sure that you rotate these regular. You may wish to rotate your supplies in your container as well. Many canned foods have an expiration date. When you rotate the older food supplies with newer food supplies, you can still use the older food supplies in your regular meals.
