Questions You Should Ask before Buying Berkey Water Filters | survival food
Thursday, December 18th, 2008
This question is important because it will help you determine how many to order. Shopping for two people is different from 200. Remember, 1 gallon of water per day per person is what you need to survive and 3 gallons of water per person per day is comfort. You also need to get keep in mind that Berkey water filters are rated by the amount of water they can hold in their clean water tank and how much water it can filter per hour.
How much water do you want to produce in an hour?
Increasing the amount of water you produce per hour can be done in two ways. You can add more filter elements or you can increase water pressure by keeping your water reservoir topped off. You also have to remember that you could be limited by the type of Katadyn Water Filters or Berkey water system that you have. The smaller units are limited by the number of filters and the larger units can hold more water.
What system do you have or wish to purchase?
When survival is the question, it becomes a personal question. Much like what freeze dried foods or survival food and type of seasoning’s like Celtic sea salt and pepper. (For Celtic sea salt, you might need a sea salt grinder.) You will need a system that is reliable and large enough to produce enough water for the number of people that are in your group. You will also be a good idea to purchase replacement parts and extra filters for the system that you do purchase.
