Defensive Driver Education | motorcycle driving course ny

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Do you remember in high school taking Driver’s Ed? Your first thought was, “Oh boy, I finally get to drive!” Then when class started, it was almost the end of the semester before you even got behind the wheel. The course I took in high school was more of a Defensive Driver Education course. It went beyond the basic mechanics of driving and talking about the risks when I did drive. Like how to properly respond to the actions of other drivers.

We learned a variety of useful rules, techniques and safety precautions that could help us out in tight situations and possibly save our lives. I was taught things like what to do before you turn your car to increase my chances of safety. Once I was on the road, I was constantly aware of the knowledge that was given me and protected me in bad situations.

I highly recommend that every teenager take a driver’s education class other than what is given in high school. It will teach them the essential ways to avoid danger and give them useful facts and statistics on how important these new skills and abilities really are.

There are many driving schools across the country that can give you the information you need to drive safely. However, there is one in New York that I highly recommend, Ferrari Driving School. They are well-versed in the art of teaching driving. In fact, they are a motorcycle driving school in NY, a truck driving school in NY and a CDL school in NY. With this much experience, they have the knowledge and experience to teach you what you need to know.

Remember, many accidents that occur around the world could have been prevented if the driver knew the basics of defensive driving. That tells you that the main benefit and best reason for taking a defensive driving course is safety.

Female Truck Drivers | CDL school NY

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

While doing research for this article, I was surprised to find that 25% of students in CDL schools in NY were female. Today many women are considering a career in the trucking driving more than ever before. Women are finally starting to figure out that they can make money driving a truck either long-distance for locally. In fact, truck driving is one of the few professions that women make the same as their male counterparts.

It has already been proven, by many sources, that women are better drivers than men are. Therefore, it should not be any surprise to find out that women make excellent truck drivers and it is arguable that they make better truck drivers than men.

That means that a woman can find a solid career job with excellent pay and benefits as a truck driver. Several driving jobs pay top dollar and provide the ability to be home every day. A woman could easily get into the trucking industry and make $65,000-$90,000 in less than a year’s time. That is even better than the top paid college graduates get as starting pay.

If you are considering trying truck driving as a career, you need to get as much information as you can before you make your final decision. With 3,000,000 truck drivers on the road and 50,000 new drivers each year, the field of employment is narrowing.

A truck driving school in NY can be just as affordable as any other. Many training schools can give you information about applying for grants and trucking companies or pick up tuition for your training in exchange for employment contracts.

Truck Driving Safety | CDL school NY

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Semi Truck 9In the United States, some of the worst automobile accidents involve semi-trailers in some way. These big rigs, 18-wheelers, or tractor-trailers can be dangerous if the driver is not well trained. There are a number of factors that lead to these dangerous and catastrophic accidents. The preventable causes of accidents include driver fatigue, speed, substance abuse, overloaded freight, as well as many others. Maneuverability and visibility is an issue that can lead to accidents that drivers do not have control. Due to the tight and size of a rock, truck drivers are not able to see certain areas surrounding and may therefore miss nearby traffic and merge into it. Drivers also cannot maneuver the vehicle as fast as a small car, making some accidents harder to avoid.

Many truck drivers have actually attended truck driving school (ny) to learn about safety. Safety is paramount to any person in the truck driving profession. Because of the sheer size of the vehicle, accidents involving big rigs are often fatal to drivers of smaller cars. The freight that a truck is carrying also plays a huge role. Some trucks carry volatile or other harmful substances that can be extremely dangerous when released to the air or jostled around. Some freight is only strapped or chain onto a flatbed, which can easily break loose in an accident.

So many issues can be traced to driver error or non-compliance. It is very difficult to gauge what is meant by “safe.” Trucking is most likely here to stay. The methods and tools used to make it possible need improvement. Besides attending a CDL school (ny), technology is one of the ways in which trucking will become safer to the drivers, the companies that employ them and to other drivers on the road. Any technological change will take time and money. Something many companies are reluctant to put forth.

Without improvements though, trucking court cases will continue to be brought up against negligent truck drivers and the companies that they represent. Many accidents have started people questioning the reliability of the commercial driver licensing system. Drivers already must meet higher safety standards than other vehicles, are subject to federal regulations that other vehicles aren’t and have are numerous rules that must be followed, such as log books and time sheets.

The system, rules and procedures for a safe trucking company are known to many people. It is just getting the employees to obey those standards that are the problem. The number of preventable accident causes greatly outnumbers the unpreventable ones when it comes to trucking. Truck drivers have a responsibility to follow the regulations placed on them in order to create a safer highway system for everybody.

Passion on Wheels | driving school ny

Ferrari 1

The Ferrari is passion on wheels, and that passion comes alive when you are behind the wheel. Imagine going to a local driving school in New York and the first car they bring out is a Ferrari and then learning how to drive behind the wheel of a Ferrari!

There are more than 100 Ferrari models in all, from the very first machines to wear the prancing horse in 1947 to today’s thrilling lineup of V-8 and V-12 coupes and convertibles.

The Ferraris are legendary sports-racing cars, road cars and the F1 cars. Clothed in graceful bodywork by Enzo Ferrari’s friend, Battista “Pinin” Farina, the early road cars were only slightly tamed versions of his racing cars. Indeed, the very first Ferrari road car, the 166 MM, took part of its name from the Mille Miglia, the famed 1,000-mile Italian road race won by a Ferrari in 1948 him.

The theme continued through such wondrous stallions as the Ferrari 340 America and 375 MM of the early 1950s. These cars could be driven to the track, compete for the checkered flag, and carry their driver to dinner that night. This was the romance of the dual-purpose sports car, an ideal that culminated with the Ferrari 250 GT SWB coupe of 1959. After that, the all-out performance demanded by competition and the veneer of civility required by Ferrari’s wealthy non-racing customers sent his road cars along their own route.

Certainly, each succeeding decade had its share of ferocious road going Ferraris — the 365 GTB/4 Daytona in the 1960s followed by the midengine 512 BBi in the ‘70s, F40 in the ‘80s, F50 in the ‘90s, and Enzo in the new millennium. But each period also had its gorgeous grand touring models as well, including the 250 GT Coupe, 330 GTC, and today’s 612 Scaglietti, all of which followed Ferrari’s classic front-engine V-12 format.

It is a cannon of the Ferrari faith that Enzo sold road cars mainly to finance his first love, racing. And in the first half of the company’s 60-year existence, that mostly meant endurance racing. Ferrari’s sports-racing cars were generally recognizable as wilder versions of models customers could buy and they competed in the big glamour events, like the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Targa Florio.

Such Ferraris as the pontoon-fender 250 TestaRossa and the voluptuous 330 P4 battled Jaguar and later, Ford, for supremacy in this particular crucible of 200-mph machine and high-risk automotive marketing.

Formula 1 had taken over by the mid-70s as the aristocrat of motor racing. And Ferrari refocused its efforts on this form of open-wheel, single-seat competition. Immortals like Alberto Ascari and Juan Manuel Fangio had driven Ferrari Grand Prix cars in the 1950s. The distinctive shark-nose Dino 156 F1 made Phil Hill the first American F1 world champion in 1961.Ferrari 2

But even those classic men and their machines could not match the dominance of Michael Shumacher who, starting in the mid 1990s. He led Ferrari to six F1 manufacturer’s titles and captured for himself five F1 world-driving championships.

You can learn to drive all these cars and more. You can also learn some of the stories of the people who designed, built, and drove them. The Ferrari is a portal to automotive magic unlike any other. So find yourself a driving school in NY and learn to drive passion on wheels!

Sharing the Road | driving school ny

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

During your tenure as a driver you will spend many of your driving hours sharing the road with other drivers and their vehicles. When sharing the road with trucks, buses or other large vehicles, there are some special tips that are important to remember. The length and width of large trucks and buses can create special driving situations for both small and large vehicle drivers. Most of the time it is a lack of understanding by a driver of a small vehicle when driving near large trucks that can lead to collisions. To share the road with a truck or bus means being aware of its capabilities and limitations.

Bus

The following suggestions are given in any truck driving school and can help drivers share the road comfortably and safely. At intersections, drivers of long trucks or buses that are turning right may move into the left lane to avoid hitting the curb as they turn. If you ignore the truck or buses turn signals and pull up on its right side, you may be squeezed between the truck or bus and the curb as it makes the turn. Most trucks and buses need a longer distance to stop. Signal your intentions well before turning, slowing or stopping to give trucks behind you more time to brake.

Semi Truck

The motorcycle operator is required to obey the same laws and rules of the road as any other vehicle, with several exceptions. A motorcycle driving school will tell you that due to their lower visibility there are several things a driver should be aware of. The trick here is to stay on one side of a lane for the other. This keeps you in the side rearview mirror of a vehicle in front of you. You should also drive with your headlights on. This helps the driver in front of you noticed that you were there.

Motorcycle

When stopped on an incline (hill), a standard (stick shift) vehicle or a truck may roll back when the driver releases the brake and engages the clutch. A truck may roll back further than the car. It is recommended to leave at least one car length between your vehicle and the truck ahead. You may want to stay slightly to the left of your lane so you can be seen in a truck driver’s mirror. The idea is to stay visible. Stay out of the blind spots, typically to the sides and back of a truck or bus. Truck and bus drivers rely on their mirrors to see what is happening in these areas. If you follow too close a truck driver will not see your vehicle in the mirrors. A good rule of thumb if you cannot see the driver in the mirrors, then the truck driver cannot see you.
