CRM is an acronym for Customer Relationship Management. It is a system of strategies applied to processes implemented by a business to handle its contact with its customers according to Wikipedia. It allows a business to learn more about their customers’ needs and behaviors so they can strengthen their business relationship. Many customer relations tasks are automated by CRM software.
Small business CRM applications are traditionally developed as client/server software. With the growth of the Internet and Web, web based CRM or online CRM applications have increased. Web based call centers, trouble tickets, contact management, personal info manager and scheduling are usually gathered by Web CRM systems.
There are three stages to the customer lifecycle, customer acquisition, customer relationship enhancements and customer retention. CRM for small business software streamlines these activities at each phase of the management of customer relations.
Customer acquisition allows a business to effectively promote and market their products/services to customers. It helps speed up the process and reduces the cost of requiring new customers.
Customer relationship enhancements gives a business a better understanding of their existing customers needs and behaviors as well as enhancing the profitability from the existing customers by cross-selling. This gives a business the ability to customize their product or service to individual customers’ preferences or needs.
Customer retention helps a business improve their customer support and call center services. This allows a business to improve customer satisfaction and reduce the cost of support. This is critical to the overall profitability of the business. No business wants to spend months and hundreds of dollars in acquiring a new customer only to have them leave because of poor customer service.
By improving and enhancing these three stages of the customer lifecycle, a business can retain customers for longer periods of time.
